Sending e-mail using the ITPA server |
If you have an
ITPA.ORG e-mail address and SEND e-mail using the ITPA server, then you
must follow these instructions. |
Background |
|
All @itpa.org e-mail addresses are provided by the ITPA e-mail server. Only if you SEND e-mails using the ITPA server should you follow the instructions on this page to ensure that you can still SEND your e-mail. The changes are taking place to improve the security of the ITPA server. |
How to tell if you SEND e-mails using the ITPA server |
|
In general, most people SEND e-mail using their internet service providers' server. Your e-mail program will already have been previously configured to collect and send messages. It will SEND messages to an SMTP host on a server, for example "mail.virgin.net". If this is the case, then you do not need to change anything as you are not using the ITPA server to SEND e-mails. and you can ignore what follows. Click here to see how this is done using Eudora Lite. If you have an @itpa.org e-mail box then you may have decided to SEND mail using the ITPA server, and your e-mail program will be configured so that the SMTP host is "mail.itpa.org". If this is the case then you are using the ITPA server to SEND messages and will need to change the SMTP address to "relay.itpa.org" (don't use the speech marks!). You need to do this before 30th June 1999 as mail.itpa.org will not work for sending messages after that date. If you are reading this before then you may make the changes now as both SMTP hosts will run concurrently until 30th June 1999. After that you will need to change your SMTP host to relay.itpa.org |
What needs to be changed |
|
Do not change the POP Host details (this is used for COLLECTING messages and is not affected by the changes to the ITPA server). |
Change the SMTP host: |
|
You need to change this setting to relay.itpa.org |
Where to find the settings |
|
If you are using a web browser such as NetScape to collect and send your e-mail, you will usually find the settings on a menu such as 'Preferences / Mail & News.' In e-mail programs, check for menu items such as 'Settings', 'Properties' or 'Preferences.' These are often found on the File or Edit menus. If you wish to set up an e-mail program from scratch, refer to the page for users setting up an e-mail program for the first time. |
